Commissioned by GMA-7 TV Networks, this is composed, arranged, and produced for a cable TV series run in The Filipino Channel. This four minute themesong comes complete with thematic scores and stingers (not included here for corporate reasons). The challenge was to weave five themes in one musical piece at exactly four minutes -- suspense, romance, thriller, action, and fun.

"Alin ang Naiba" Short Film
This is an excerpt of Anne Nicomedes' then short fim in UP Film Institute. This commissioned original scoring phase had been the end of a beginning. And the beginning of an end. Sure. Right. It bagged the Best Narrative, People's Choice and Best Original Music Score awards at the Inyorai Video Festival 2003. This garnered the Best Thesis award in her batch, too.

"Tech and Turf" Move-in Campaign
Pointwest Innovations, the first all-Filipino IT company had to expand to the UP-Ayala TechnoHub for further growth. Being one of their consistent multimedia providers, we conceptualized a full-blown multimedia move-in campaign which aims to introduce their new territory to a hundred employees.
The concept is titled "Tech and Turf" as this cutting edge IT company which sprang from the concrete jungles of Makati, finds its extended home in the serene, nature-friendly environment of U.P. Diliman where their people can explore & unwind after work under the trees or jogging at the academic oval as one of many perks.
For starters, this is the series of Posters we designed for them. Followed by Intra-Radio Ads & Brochures.

New Logo
There are two icons in our updated corporate logo. First one is in found - the "eye", which symbolizes the outfit's passion for Visual art . Second is in sound - the "ear", representing its madness for Audio or Music/Voice-Over creations.
The first word, however, is a name - the combined names of its founders.
Orange, as psychologists and geeks know, is linked with analytical thinking and creativity. Black could be void. And from its inanity, ideas, smart ideas, have reason to come to life.
Did it appeal to someone like you?

Susan Boyle Sings, Homeless Ted Williams Speaks
For years, Juanfoundsound has recorded several Voice-Over talents ranging from authoritative, to classy, and to kooky sounding.
Almost all of them are gifted with inborn vocal tones with the capacity to deliver attention grabbing messages. Generally, they do their thing via modulated delivery. A normal, chatty conversation with them would not normally strike you head over heels.
And almost all of them are well-off people - having no troubles, particularly, with extremely stretching their muscles nine to five to pay bills and some more perks to go. But we've never heard of a man with a sweet, warm, heavenly voice whose economic stature is being a... vagabond.Well, not anymore. His story is proof that sheer talent will always be in demand. Technology will aid us, yes. But talent stays on top almost always. His God-acknowledging humility melts hardened hearts. And this time, to make things more interesting, talent meets technology. Cleveland Cavalier has offered Ted Williams a very attractive job opportunity using his golden voice. How was he discovered? Viral technology in a mater of hours.
Check out the his amazing story...

The Top Ingredient of a Great Sounding Band Album - The Producer

Throughout the history of music, from the Beatles to, say, U2, never a chart-topping song took place w/o the wisdom & supervision of a record producer behind the wheels in studio productions.
Granted that the band members are capable of egg-laying well-written stories/lyrics and excitng melodies, still, it is through the trained ears of seasoned producers that aesthetically good sounding songs (or hits!) are wonderfully forged. If you're wondering what magic does a producer contribute to studio album recordings, it's quite close to the task of a film director who breathes life into movie productions where actors are carefully and meticulously weld together to form a narrative obra.
English producer Sir George Martin wouldn't be regarded as the "fifth Beatle" if not for his arrangements, collaborative inputs and innovations that were way ahead of his time. Take for instance his awesome string arrangements for "Eleanor Rigby", the sound textures in the breakthrough album Sgt. Peppers, among others. Studio works that are often esteemed and revisited time and again. Even renowned guitarist Jeff Beck attested, “When we got later the psychedelic stuff, George put all that together. So without George, I don’t know. But of course the [Beatles'] songwriting’s there, the melodies are there, marvelous. But they would be much more crude and raw, I think.”
U2 regarded Steve Lilywhite (who has handled Rolling Stones, Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, DMB, Big Country, The Smiths, etc) as that of a "children's TV presenter" during their first album "Boy", as reference to being well-rounded studio teacher - a relationship which stretched up to their third album. Yet the band, who has consistently testified of not being musically adept since day one, would later keep sending him back to their Dublin studio productions each time they would get frustrated concocting true-blue live band sounding concepts. This dependence to their timeless fave producer works till their album "How to dismantle an atomic bomb".
In a book U2 by U2, Bono affirms one invaluable participation of a good producer by saying that sometimes when he hears a song, he can foretell if it's going to make it on the radio or not - even in it's bare form. In their song "Sometimes you can't make it on your own", Edge reveals that in it's progressive writing, there were five producers who were credited in it - Brian Eno, Danny Lanois, Chris Thomas, Jacknife Lee and Flood. Wait. Before you stone me by arguing that, of course, U2 can afford it, they also share that they had, at times, to pay all that they've got. And that's one way they could give real value to their fans.
Pinoy bands, on the other hand, are still having bouts about this proven, time-tested procedure. Unfortunately, most "undiscovered" bands/artists still find it to be an artificial necessity to get a record producer on board, particularly those in the indie community. The "DIY" mentality (which many musicians believe to dramatically yield big savings) is still being embraced more than ever but, more often than not, results in short-sighted, mis-fueled satisfaction. If i may add a little more honesty here, these unquestionably talented musicians may eventually find themselves holding anger at the closed doorsteps of prospective A & R agents, wondering if ears were lent for screening playback. Sooner, after countless listening sessions and careful analysis with concerned, wiser peers; when the ears and mind has already "fermented", only do they realize that they "get what they pay for".

Could I Someday Have a Playback of my Prep Musings?
Tonight, my chest deflated after having read this.
Not that i resent being what i've become now. It's just something i wish i could go back to. So that i could be a better playground mate to little angels. Like Himig.
"I love child things because there’s so much mystery when you’re a child.
When you’re a child, something as simple as a tree doesn’t make sense.
You see it in the distance and it looks small, but as you go closer, it seems to grow —
you haven’t got a handle on the rules when you’re a child.
We think we understand the rules when we become adults
but what we really experienced is a narrowing of the imagination."
– David Lynch (via nathanielstuart) (via booklove) (via dabebs:)
Digital playgrounds fail to give children pure joy. They need space. Real space. To run is real fun.
Got to be environmental & physical... over digital. Time can break sweats real good... as slow as a Kurosawa flick, as drooling as a guitar lick.
(I don't think i could make my daughter swing to a digital string.)
Oh well. I gotta "run"...

Sound Makes Me See
Picture this:
6 a.m. kagigising mo lang. Usually, di mo naman ididnindilat mata mo, kasi nakikiramdam ka pa, o tinatamad, di ba?
Then your garage gate opens up. You suddenly remember you forgot to close it last mid-night. The "squeak" triggered a picture:
Some burglar has just slipped your house pedaling away with your mountain bike.
That's your imagination. Or intuition. Triggered clearly a possible "daymare". Which was triggered by what you heard. That's the underrated power of SOUND.
When i go to the movies, i would ask for a refund if there's a problem, major or minor, with their sound system. Or, at least kalahati, ibalik nila.
"Films are 50 percent visual and 50 percent sound. Sometimes sound even overplays the visual."
Psycho-acoustics drive me psycho ::-)
That's why i prefer Radio over TV. AM Radio, that is. No, baduy man o hindi, the point is i was trained to imagine big time ! [Zimataaar! May kabayong anggara tumakbo pero bao pala yun. Dyaske. Galeng!]
Today, as i walk as a music and sound artist, there are countless images that is see... and create... especially when it's dark. Sound is visible.
